This is a Madrone Wood Bowl with 3 carved legs. As Madrone wood dries it changes shape as moisture is removed from the cells. This drying process creates an irregular surface and warping. When you look at the underside you will notice the character and texture of the wood where there was once a branch. This offers a very organic look to the piece. The finish is as smooth as glass and the object does not look like wood. It has the look of white stone. This is a goal I often pursue in that the wood does not look like wood. The bottom is signed by the artist and that would be me.
The bowl is handcrafted on a wood lathe turning at high speed while a sharp tool peels away layers of wood. It is put aside for several weeks and nature goes to work modifying the design. Then it is finished, buffed and polished. This is a one of a kind object.
This is a display piece. The size is approximately 5 inch x 5 x 2.5 high.
