This initiative encourages furniture retailers to implement policies that drive responsible wood-sourcing through company supply chains, according to a press release. “Badcock developed a policy and then worked diligently and quickly to share it with all their suppliers,” said executive director of SFC Susan Inglis. “This is the kind of swift-focused action we all need to be taking to do our parts in addressing so many sustainability issues. I congratulate the entire team – it heartens me to see this evidence of commitment.”

Badcock joins a long list of furniture company announcing sustainability measures. IKEA, the world’s biggest furniture retailer announced plans to use only renewable and recycled materials in its products by 2030, a report by Reuters in 2018 stated.

In June, IKEA announced a new supplier program that will allow its 1,600 suppliers to consume 100% renewable electricity in their production, a report stated on the Environment+Energy Leader website.

According to Badcock president and CEO Rob Burnette, “Our focus has always been on the needs of our customer – and since we both share a deep concern for the health and safety of our planet, becoming a responsible member of the SFC was a logical next step for us.”

Responsible wood sourcing is just one of many ways Badcock officials say they are dedicated to best practices. The company is also committed to carbon reduction, consumer and environmental health, waste reduction, water management, and product circularity.

Founded in 1904, W.S. Badcock Corporation is one of the largest privately held home furnishings companies in the United States. Headquartered in Mulberry, its more than 380 corporate and associate dealer stores employ more than 2,500 employees in eight southeastern states.

Its branded Badcock Home Furniture more stores carry a complete line of furniture, appliances, bedding, electronics, home office, accessories, and seasonal items while offering in-house financing for its customers.
